Impossible to cancel Tivo

Nothing pisses me off more than trying cancel a recurring service.

My most recent experience was with Tivo.  As much as I loved Tivo, they crossed the line here.

First, there is no way to cancel your service online, which forces you to call customer service.  Already alarms are going off in my head.

Second, I was on hold for 15 minutes waiting for a customer service representative.

Third, they spent the first 5 minutes trying to convince me to retain my service by offering me all kinds of promotions.  I begin the conversation as polite as I could.  I even answered most of the “Why?” questions concerning my decision to cancel, but of course I turned angry when the woman would not let up.

Finally, she gave in and said it would take five minutes to cancel my account and could I please hold.  FIVE FREAKING MINUTES ARE YOU SERIOUS???  CLICK THE CANCEL BUTTON AND BE DONE WITH IT ALREADY.  Of course I waited on hold, the last thing I wanted was to get stuck in this situation again because I didn’t complete the cancellation routine.

I had considered re-joining the Tivo world when I could afford an HDTivo box, but it’ll be a long time before I forget this inconvenience.
