OMG has it been a year already?
Not quite, but almost. I made my first post back in September of 2006, however, the actual creation of the site began about this time. It was originally intended just to hold pictures of the wedding and wedding related events, but I decided to expand it after returning from Hawaii.
Overall, a very eventful year for me.
- Got married
- Transferred stores
- Bought a house
- Restarted my job search
- Decided to start a family
Surprisingly, what seems to have brought me full circle is that I’m transferring to a different store location again. I am now working at a delivery only unit much closer to my home with an area that spans all of Bexley and some fairly rough areas of Columbus. This store is much lower volume and doesn’t include the dine-in aspect. It is fairly simple to run and will give me more time to focus on my job search and my pregnant wife.
I figured the transfer would be relatively easy on myself. After all, I just relocated a year ago and didn’t miss a thing from my old unit. The move from S High is proving to be somewhat more difficult though. I had built a solid team of employees who got along well and worked hard. I promoted two of those team members to shift managers and was working on two more to promote. The crew was mostly high school kids and first and second year college students, but they were some of the best workers I’ve ever had. They looked up to me and never let me down. I hate to say it, but I’m kind of homesick.
I am definitely not missing the dine-in business though. I am much more operations focused. I like to have my kitchen working like a well-oiled machine and really drive the speed of the business. Talking with customers and handling complaints is not my idea of fun.
On a positive note, one of my part-time drivers at the new location works for a company called Durable Slate (they specialize in slate roofs) and has offered me heck of a deal on replacing some slate tiles on my roof.
